Bought this first trike for my 28 month old son for Xmas. I really wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is, and I'm very very pleased with the design.
Packing was sufficient to protect all the pieces in the box. Check your box completely because a couple of items are in cardboard folds on the sides.
Assembly was without problems and took about 30 minutes. You'll need a Phillips Screwdriver and that's about it. Instructions are comprehensive and easy to follow.
There are three setups that can be used with the trike: 1. Rocker mode when the handle is under the trike and your child just rocks the bike in a stationary position. 2. Push Mode where the handle is in the upright position for small children who can't reach the pedals. The bike has foot rests that your child can place his feet on while you push him around. These footrests can be retracted to a snaplock position when the child is pedaling on their own. 3. Full Tricycle - when the push handle is completely removed from the trike and it becomes a completely mobile transportation machine!
Our son used it in the rocker position for about 2 minutes on Xmas. We then put the handle in the locked push position and he was immediately wandering around our great room and kitchen using his feet to push! His size barely allows him to reach the pedals, yet by the end of the day, with my wife's coaching, he was actually pedaling around while repeating the mantra "pedal, pedal, pedal" to remind himself of what to do! Amazing... less than a day and he's pedaling away!
The Trike is very well built and thought out. The pusher handle is locked in either position with a easy insert. Removing the handle requires unscrewing, but should only take 5 minutes. Overall, the trike looks like it can handle a toddlers beating for some time.... certainly to the point of a training wheel bicycle.
The only negative is a more of a anecdote. Dad was a little chagrined that his son was more interested in this trike than the $300 12volt 2-passenger power Jeep he also got on Xmas. Sigh.... !!!
